This week's #myslice - Local Places to Love, features three kiwis who love to head into backcountry NZ to tramp or to hunt in some of NZ's most beautiful, off the grid places. Enjoy.
JESS - Dunedin
What's so awesome about your slice of NZ? St Clair & the Otago coastline. The colours are epic.
What was your first tramp after lockdown lifted? The Kepler - jogged it over two days. Iris Burn Hut was freezing!
Favourite NZ track ever? As it stands - the Kepler!
Cafe/bakery you dream of at the end of a multi-day tramp? The Esplanade St Clair! The best salted caramel buns.
What's on the tramping bucket list? The Humpbridge in Southland in July, and the Raikura Challenge in Oct!
JOSH - Hokitika
What's so awesome about your slice of NZ? We are surrounded by mountains and rivers on one side and the sea on the other.
What was your first adventure after lockdown lifted? Local hunt/tramp in the mountains out the backdoor basically.
Cafe/bakery you dream of at the end of a multi-day tramp? Don't really dream of a cafe/bakery, just look forward to getting home to see the family (if they aren't in the mountains with me).
Best local brew is: A cup of billy tea when I get back in the bush.
What's on the bucket list: I make adventure films for a job so travel most of the time, I love checking out places I haven't been before, heading into the mountains tomorrow to the headwaters of the Landsborough river, a new spot so we are excited.
NATHAN - Otautahi , Christchurch
What's so awesome about your slice of NZ? You can be so close to both the mountains and the sea along with the variety of hiking trails all within a 2 hour drive.
What was your first tramp after lockdown lifted? Mount Guy - I blog about my tramps here.
Favourite NZ track ever? Faust Loop Track.
Cafe/bakery you dream of at the end of a multiday tramp?
The closest fish & chip shop to the road end is always a good stop off. Otherwise if it's open the Sheffield Pie shop.
What's on the tramping bucket list?
There are a number of spots on the West Coast, Klondyke Valley Route, Mt Brown, Lake Morgan, Ivory Lake Hut, Buckland Peaks... the list goes on & on!
