From the tradie go-to work top, to the urbanite’s default classic and the weekend warrior’s dash-and-grab favourite, the flannel shirt has to be one of the most versatile items of clothing.

Now you can probably pick up a flannel shirt from your local red shed for the price of half a dozen (non-craft) beers but it will never outlive, look as good, or feel as amazing as the Cactus version. So what makes the Cactus Checked Flannel Shirt stand out from the rest?

• NASA grade thread (that's strong!) and military grade buttons

Supershirts have evolved. The weight of this new fabric is 200gsm, falling nicely between our previous light and heavy supershirts. The lighter weight makes it great to wear, but it had to be Cactus level of tough and Cactus level of quality. It's a well thought out beast:

It took us a while to add shirts to the Cactus range, because we wanted to make sure we got it right. We couldn't just make any old shirt - it had to be Cactus level of tough and Cactus level of quality. Our Supershirt is a well thought-out beast. It's s lighter version of our classic Supershirt. The same cut and fit, but in a summer-weight version of our cotton drill shirt fabric – and in two new colours: French Navy and Palm.

"Back in the early 90s, Cactus was founded as a way to keep a few folk from having to get real jobs and in an effort to provide the best locally-crafted apparel and backpacks to our people. One of those people was Mr D Best, otherwise known as Tobius D. The Cactus Climbing and Space Exploration was our first ever print and was a play on words (a backpack is, after all, an enclosed space. Thus Cactus was all about exploring space.) 30 years later, the only things that have changed are our PO Box and phone number - we're still exploring space and still doing it 100% here in New Zealand." - Ben Kepes, Founder

This beautifully crafted A-line activewear skirt is built to serve a certain kind of woman - the Cactus woman.
