Truly awesome holiday heroes at the smaller end of the scale, or a huge gear bag for expeditions and sales trips at the larger end.
One of the four sizes of Big Burly Bag (or BBB) is bound to meet your needs. You’ll never have to see your stuff strewn across the baggage collection area again as beefy fabrics, reinforcing where needed, heavy duty YKK zips and load relief straps across the zips mean the BBB easily meets the legendary Cactus durability requirements.
To avoid the polyester/cotton C-Canvas versus fully synthetic C-1000n6 argument we thought it was easiest to offer the BBB’s in both, with different colours to choose from too. You don't have a choice for size large though (which is massive). It only comes in Black Cordura.
We can’t stop you going over the weight limit, but the XS BBB does meet the maximum size limits for most airline carry-on luggage.
- Fabrics: Cordura or C-Canvas
- Extra Small: 43 litres, 600 grams, 550x330x240mm (airline carry-on luggage size)
- Small: 66 litres, 680 grams, 800x330x250mm
- Medium: 105 litres, 800 grams, 930x370x290mm
- Large: 170 litres, 1085 grams, 1020x480x380mm (Black Cordura only)
-
Our pack fabrics have various waterproofing coatings and treatments. To make these last as long as possible we recommend that you don’t wash your bag in a machine
-
Brush dirt from the product while still dry
-
Hand wash in cold or warm water using mild detergent or pure soap - preferably one that's nice to the environment
-
Close zips while washing (they'll last longer), you can also silicone spray or lightly wax zips periodically to increase their lifespan
-
Drip dry without creases
-
It’s not impossible to damage these bags, and you’ll have fun trying, but if you succeed, get it back to us and for a small fee we’ll fix it up for you
- If you are still not sure, give us a call or flick us an email
This is a shoulder strap attachment for your BBB (Big Burly Bag). It attaches easily to loops at each end of the BBB to make heavy things easier to carry.
Made of 4cm wide, 145cm long webbing with a padded bit for your shoulder. The strap attaches to the bag with our big burly aluminium grippin buckles. It's adjustable so one size fits all of the bags.
• 38mm wide webbing
• 1450mm long
• 38mm wide Grippin Buckles
• 140 grams

A fine tailored-fit short-sleeve cotton button-up shirt for when the hard work's done and you deserve a few cold ones.
This is a lightweight Cactus weekender shirt - designed for relaxing afternoons around the barbie. It also works nicely as summer office-wear, and for any other smart-casual situations you might find yourself in.
Matches very well with a nice tidy pair of Denim Supertrousers or SOS Shorts.
Note that we've made these shirts long in the body because they will shrink a little, especially if you hit them with a warm to hot wash.
- Made in Christchurch, NZ
- High-quality, durable 100% cotton
- Corozo buttons - these are made from the super-strong nut of the Corozo palm tree
- Made with Cactus 'ethical construction' values
Machine wash in cold water.
Rinse thoroughly.
Line dry.
Warm iron.
Do not dry clean or bleach.
These shirts are designed to be more fitting than our Supershirts.

This all-natural, heavy duty, water repellent fabric wax is made from the highest quality beeswax and proprietary blend of of plant-based waxes and oils. No paraffin, silicone, or other petroleum-based synthetic ingredients.
This wax is a replacement to our previous 'Otter Wax.'
This beeswax bar can be used to revive the waterproofing capabilities of our C-Canvas jackets, trousers and packs.
See the care tab below for how to apply it.
Made in NZ.
Ingredients
- Coconut oil
- Plant oil
- Beeswax
- Carnauba wax
Applying the Bees Wax Bar
- Make sure your pants/jacket/pack is clean & dry
- Run the bar back and forth over the surface (this creates a friction for the wax to loosen). Get a good even spread of the wax across the surface.
- HEAT the wax into the surface using: a) A heat gun, b) A hair dryer on a HIGH setting, c) An iron set to a LOW SYNTHETIC setting
- You'll know it's worked when the wax is not white & sticky to touch. Re-apply heat until it is not longer white & sticky to touch - that's when you know it's been cured into the fabric and it's waterproof again.
- Leave overnight to dry and cure.

If you're after a hat to protect your face from the elements whether chopping wood or simply playing backyard cricket, the Cactus Bucket Hat will become your default. As a word of warning, as well as being extremely practical, it will it make you look mighty attractive too.
Because Cactus gear is made to last, the general rule of thumb is to design gear that will keep looking good (unlike shell suits of the 80's). The New Zealand Bucket Hat is timeless. It's been the go-to style of summer (or winter) hat for generations and will continue to be - especially now that Cactus has made one.
Made from durable C-Canvas in 4 different sizes.
NOTE: XS Bucket Hat's don't have holes as we don't want small heads of hair getting caught in the eyelets.
- Broad enough and low enough brim to keep the sun and rain off your face
- Four different sizes
- 12oz C-canvas for a long service life
- Made in New Zealand
- Lifetime warranty on materials and workmanship
- 4 sizes - S, M, L, XL
- 12oz C-canvas
- Use mild detergent or pure soap (preferably one that's nice to the earth)
- Our canvas has a water resistant coating which can shift and discolour through the initial break in period
- For best results handwash until the garment is broken in machine washing is fine after this
- Drip dry without creases (it won't take long as the polyester in the fabric doesn't hold much water)
- If you get attacked by a pig and the fabric gets holed while saving your reproductive potential send it back and we'll patch it

Cactus Face Mask Filters
We are constantly iterating on our products at Cactus. Following customer feedback, we have designed a new Cactus facemask that's washable, with replaceable filters (while doing our best to keep all of the goodness from our previous mask).
Replaceable filter pack:
- 5 filters in a pack
- The wool-filter is designed to be more than twice as easy to breathe through than standard masks.
- The filter media filters 99% of particles down to 0.3 microns in size - for reference, to meet N95 standard, a filter must block 95% of these particles.
- Made in NZ.
IMPORTANT:
- As mentioned above, the filter is tested in-house to exceed P2/N95 levels.
- Do not wash the filter. The face mask is washable, but without the filter. Check care tab for further information.
- Check the care tab above for when to replace your filter.
- Wearing the mask cannot fully remove the risk of infection or contracting a disease.
- Due to Filters & Face Masks being a sanitary product, we cannot accept them for return, refund or exchange for any reason. We recognise this is quite different from the regular Cactus stance on returns/refunds/exchanges but unfortunately the nature of this product gives us no other option.
- Stop using the mask immediately if breathing becomes difficult.
- This Face Mask is a consumer product. It is not a respirator. It is not a medical device.
Care Removing the Filter:
As with any mask used to filter out germs and viruses, care needs to be taken when removing the mask and the filter. Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly after touching the mask or filter.
Taking Care of your Mask & Filter:
- Store below 30 degrees in a dry place. Keep separately in a sealed bag.
Washing:
- The filter cannot be washed. To wash the filter makes it less effective.
- Remove and dispose of your filter before washing mask.
Lifetime of your Filter:
Filter life primarily depends on air conditions, daily user usage (hrs) and rate of breathing. The filter is said to be at the end of its life when it is noticeably harder to breathe through but, with normal use, we expect filters to last the lifetime of the mask.
Replacing your Filter
If you are removing the filter from your mask, we recommend disposing of it and replacing it.
The wool, fluffy side of the filter is to face away from you (face down when you insert it into the mask.
This video shows you how to replace the Filter:
Packaging:
For hygiene purposes, we’ve had to package these Mask Filters in a plastic bag. We’re not fond of this solution and will be looking for other methods, but in the meantime, let’s find as many ways as we can to ensure this bag is not single use.

The Cactus Face Mask
This Face Mask in a nutshell:
- The woven wool-filter is designed to be more than twice as easy to breathe through than standard masks.
- The filter media used in the mask filters 99% of particles down to 0.3 microns in size - for reference, to meet N95 standard, a filter must block 95% of these particles. Our mask therefore exceeds this level by a wide margin).
- We've designed it to seal snugly around the face for superior protection with an adjustable nose-wire to form a protective seal.
- Made in NZ - 100% cotton outer and a NZ woven wool-filter.
IMPORTANT:
- As mentioned above, the filter is tested in-house to exceed P2/N95 levels.
- This face mask is reusable but not washable (check care tab for further information).
- This face mask does not have replaceable filters, but can be used many times - in normal use the filter should outlive the mask itself. However, if it becomes difficult to breathe through the mask, consider the mask clogged and do not continue to use the mask.
- Wearing the mask cannot fully remove the risk of infection or contracting a disease.
- Due to face masks being a sanitary product, we cannot accept them for return, refund or exchange for any reason.
Middlemore Foundation Partnership:
For every 4 masks sold, we donate 1 mask to the Middlemore Foundation for a fellow kiwi in need. The Middlemore Foundation fund important initiatives to help those in need in South Auckland. Providing these masks allows the individuals to continue using public transport and helps prevent the spread of COVID-19 among the community.
Background:
Cactus have teamed up with Lanaco to create a highly efficient, portable Face Mask. We’ve placed Lanaco’s HELIX® woven Filter Media - an innovative natural wool filter - into a soft cotton outer. And voila, protection against harmful particles, pollution, bacteria and virus. The HELIX®Filter Media, scientifically tested within an inch of its life, proves kiwi sheep have got the goods to protect their two legged friends. In fact it’s so good, NASA are currently testing it to protect their space team.
Care Removing the Mask:
As with any mask used to filter out germs and viruses, care needs to be taken when removing the mask. Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly after touching the mask.
Taking Care of your Mask:
- Do not wash, spray or immerse your filter with any liquids (natural humidity from breathing is fine).
- Store below 30 degrees in a dry place. Keep separately in a sealed bag.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Do not tumble dry.
Cleaning your Mask:
- Wipe your mask with a dry/slightly damp cloth BUT do not get the mask soaked.
- Use santiser or spray on a tissue & then wipe the outer fabrics only.
Not washable:
The mask cannot be washed as the filter could be affected.
Number of uses:
The filter in this mask cannot be replaced. To have a replaceable section would affect the sealing of the mask (and the seal is why it can perform so highly).
Filter life primarily depends on air conditions, daily user usage (hrs) and rate of breathing.
The filter is said to be at the end of its life when it is noticeably harder to breathe through but, with normal use, we expect filters to last the lifetime of the mask.
Stop using the mask immediately if breathing becomes difficult.
Packaging:
For hygiene purposes, we’ve had to package these Face Masks in a plastic bag. We’re not fond of this solution and will be looking for other methods, but in the meantime, let’s find as many ways as we can to ensure this bag is not single use.
Fitting your Cactus Face Mask
- Place the face mask to your face
- Pull the elastic to a point that it is comfortable but snug (the better the seal on your face, the more effective the mask is)
- Tie a knot in the elastic

We have a new design for our Down products, so we're clearing out the 2019 style for a steal!
NOTE: No returns, exchanges or refunds for clearance products. Please choose carefully.
Down jackets are a 'must have' in New Zealand for the winter. They're pretty much a uniform in the South Island. They're not cheap and when you buy one you want it to last. You don't want to have to worry about brushing past a tree or holding a pile of firewood and the fabric tearing. This is why we thought that we should take on the challenge to make a tougher down jacket!
But why stop there ... you can't get much more heavy-duty than our C-Canvas Supertrousers – so how about a down jacket to match?
And here it is – the next-level tough, Cactus Canvas Down Jacket. This is not a lightweight, 'pop in your backpack for a day walk' number. This is your hefty, super-warm, super-tough, big, burly, mega down jacket for outdoor professionals who need a durable, warm and reliable down jacket.

These canvas vests are the logical companion to our trouser range. Crafted from the same C-Canvas as our Supertrousers and lined with polyester microfibre fleece, this vest will protect you from the elements but with way more durability than your average waterproof/breathable garment.
Perfect for farming or outdoor work where you require movement with your arms or when a jacket is just too hot. Heavy fabrics used for longevity and protection, the Canvas Vest has the same shell, same lining, same rugged toughness as the Canvas Jackets, just without the arms.
- Proofed European 12oz C-Canvas is great to wear and will last for ages
- Made in New Zealand with first world environmental and labour values
- Wide shoulder covering to keep out the rain or handle the fence post loading
- Roomy fleece lined hand pockets for warmth or nails
- Casual styling which won't let you down in most social situations
- Bar-tacked at all stress points
- YKK zips because they're the best
- Fabric: Proofed European 12oz C-Canvas, C-M Fleece
- Weight: 700 grams
- Use mild detergent or pure soap (preferably one that's nice to the earth)
- Our canvas has a water resistant coating which can shift and discolour through the initial break in period
- For best results hand wash until the garment is broken in machine washing is fine after this
- Drip dry without creases (it won't take long as the polyester in the fabric doesn't hold much water)
- Close zips while washing (they'll last longer)
- If you get attacked by a pig and the fabric gets holed while saving your reproductive potential send it back and we'll patch it

In keeping with the theme of ‘staple’ gear for Kiwis, we bring you the Cactus Checked Flannel Shirt. Now complete and glowing with awesomeness we’re all wondering why we took so long to make these.
From the tradie go-to work top, to the urbanite’s default classic and the weekend warrior’s dash-and-grab favourite, the flannel shirt has to be one of the most versatile items of clothing.
Now you can probably pick up a flannel shirt from your local red shed for the price of half a dozen (non-craft) beers but it will never outlive, look as good, or feel as amazing as the Cactus version. So what makes the Cactus Checked Flannel Shirt stand out from the rest?
- It’s made from quality, 100% Cotton, 233gsm soft and warm brushed flannel
- NASA grade thread (that's strong!) and military grade buttons
- Voluminous, generous length chest pockets - they fit notebooks & phones
- Felled side seams for strength
- Long back to save you from the infamous butt crack issue
- Roomy enough to nicely fit a Cactus merino underneath for extra warmth on those cold days
- Reasonably high collar - high enough to keep the sun off but not so high as to look like a dork
- Double layered shoulders for extra strength and durability
- NZ made - right here in Christchurch

Love Cactus Slim Supertrousers, but wish they came in a lighter, softer fabric? The new Cactus CNC Fabric is for you. These are a similar cut to C-Canvas Slim Supertrousers, so they'll tuck into your gumboots easier, hook up less, and as a bonus, they look really stylish around town. The difference is they're made from our new CNC Fabric, which is less stiff and lighter.
Note: The Armadillo colour fabric is designed to fade to a washed denim-look. With just a little bit of wear, your Supertrousers will fade to a highly-fashionable worn-in look, so you don't have to look like the shiny-pants new fella round town.
- CNC fabric is durable and great to wear
- Made by happy people who’ll be even happier if you buy some
- Handle tricky manoeuvres with the articulated knee design
