In keeping with the theme of ‘staple’ gear for Kiwis, we bring you the Cactus Checked Flannel Shirt. Now complete and glowing with awesomeness we’re all wondering why we took so long to make these.
From the tradie go-to work top, to the urbanite’s default classic and the weekend warrior’s dash-and-grab favourite, the flannel shirt has to be one of the most versatile items of clothing.
Now you can probably pick up a flannel shirt from your local red shed for the price of half a dozen (non-craft) beers but it will never outlive, look as good, or feel as amazing as the Cactus version. So what makes the Cactus Checked Flannel Shirt stand out from the rest?
- It’s made from quality, 100% Cotton, 233gsm soft and warm brushed flannel
- NASA grade thread (that's strong!) and military grade buttons
- Voluminous, generous length chest pockets - they fit notebooks & phones
- Felled side seams for strength
- Long back to save you from the infamous butt crack issue
- Roomy enough to nicely fit a Cactus merino underneath for extra warmth on those cold days
- Reasonably high collar - high enough to keep the sun off but not so high as to look like a dork
- Double layered shoulders for extra strength and durability
- NZ made - right here in Christchurch
Please note: shrinkage may occur in first wash.
• 100% Cotton, 233gsm brushed flannel

Bean Bags made right here in the Cactus workshop and are a great gift for yourself or someone who loves a good chillax.

It shouldn't take long to figure out where we got the name for this friendly, helpful, simple... and generously proportioned tote. (Sounds just like someone around here).
This is a souped-up version of the ever so popular Cactus Do-gooder. It's the same size and shape but has a zip and shoulder strap. Suddenly you can do so much more with it. Hide away your personals, tip it upside down, ride your bike with it on and stuff it full of tools because the shoulder strap is great for the extra weight.
The Do-gooder started out as reusable shopping bag that would really go the distance, but once we made a few we quickly realised it had far more potential than that. Add a zip and a strap and we have the Wobbit.

The Subductor is a c-210n6 lined courier style shoulder bag, but has a squarer shape, making it suitable for A4 papers, folders, and meetings. The Subductor comes with a cross-strap which pulls it around your body; avoiding that dreaded forward swing as you’re passing the Brooklyn bus. A superb around-town equipment vehicle and incredibly hard-wearing to boot. We do bang on about our stuff lasting a long time, but it’s true. Davie Robinson’s one of these is still going strong after 15 years and due to the design’s lack of dependence on zips and high construction values it should pretty much last forever.
- Corner covers to protect your stuff from even the worst Wellington southerly
- Fully lined with c-210n6, for the same reason!
- Two front pockets for convenient access to your wallet/phone/keys/u lock
- Fat 50mm shoulder strap

A simple shoulder bag for the modern urbanite. Please note - not all colours and sizes available at all times.
We’ve been using lots of our Ultra C-Canvas lately and it’s such a nice fabric we couldn’t resist making a day to-day bag out of it.
Once again the theme with this one is simplicity and durability. Given how varied our customers are we aren’t even going to try and guess what you might want to carry in your Witness, but we’ve designed it to be perfect size for everyday use if you don't like to be burdened with too much excess stuff.
- The main bag has enough space for a book or two, your iPhone (no doubt), and your lunch
- The medium Witness will fit most tablets (painkillers or the digital kind) or a small laptop
- An internal pocket with sections for your wallet, phone, and pens.
- Easily adjustable shoulder strap
- Grippin Buckle flap closure - fast, secure and lasts forever
- Construction backed by a lifetime warranty on materials and workmanship
- Sizes: Small or Medium
- Volumes: 7 litres (Small) and 12 litres (Medium),
- Weights: 350 grams and 435 grams,
- Measurements: Small: Base 22 x 12cm, Height 30cm , Top width 35cm Medium: Base 30 x 13cm, Height 35cm, Top Width 42cm,
- Fabrics: Ultra C-Canvas, C-1000n6
- Use mild detergent or pure soap (preferably one that's nice to the earth)
- Our C-Canvas has a water resistant coating which can shift and discolour through the initial break in period
- For best results hand wash until broken in, machine washing is fine after this although it will reduce the lifetime of the product
- Drip dry without creases (it won't take long as the polyester in the fabric doesn't hold much water)
- Close zips while washing (they'll last longer)
- If your urban lifestyle gets so exciting that you rip your Witness, send it back to us and we’ll mend it for a small fee
- If you are still not sure, give us a call or flick us an email

Meet the Do-Gooder - don’t let it’s simplicity distract you from it’s complete awesomeness!
Here at the Cactus HQ we get our choice of all the packs and bags we sell, and the one the you’ll see us with more than anything else is the Do-Gooder. It started out as reusable shopping bag that would really go the distance, but once we made a few we quickly realised it had far more potential than that.
You’ll see us bring our lunch and office essentials to work in a Do-Gooder, stuffing the roadtrip “get at them while you’re driving” bit and pieces in one, carrying muddy cycling shoes and helmets around, and loading them with beers and sausages when it’s BBQ time. At the farmers market the Do-Gooder makes the other pseudo-eco plastic bag alternatives look disposable.
We wanted Cactus tough, so 12oz C-Canvas was the obvious choice - it’s so tough we carried Jan in it round the office. Your guess as to how much she weighs, but more than Rob (who back when he was a climber referred to his forearms as “Da Boyz”) could carry in one hand! Cactus durability means it’ll last a really long time, and of course it comes with a lifetime warranty even though we doubt you’ll need it. It’s also easily repairable. Yes, long lasting and repairable - that’s all good stuff for the environment we reckon.
- Super durable and washable proofed European 12oz C-Canvas
- Deep enough for good carrying capacity
- Pre-bent straps that stay on your shoulder
- Internal pocket to make sure your phone/wallet/keys aren't always at the bottom
- Construction backed by a lifetime warranty on materials and workmanship

Down vests or puffer vests are a 'must have' for New Zealand winters and without the arms, they're great for autumn and spring too. Good down jackets are never cheap so when you buy one you want it to last. This is why we thought that we should take on the challenge to make a tougher down vest for those working and playing hard in the outdoors. And we did - super tough vests that stand up to gorse, firewood stacking, brushing past old farm gear and the likes.
In true NZ made style, we're always looking for ways to make our gear even better and our 2020 design tweaks do just that. Strengthened in all the places we do repairs and taking on board customer feedback, the latest evolution of the Cactus Down Vest features a grunty two way zipper, extra strengthening around pockets, a removable hood, a few more 'Michelin man' rolls, improved water repelling super powers rolls and so much more.

- Nylon taffeta lining with extra internal reinforcing on the lower back to avoid wear and tear around your 'seat'
- Two internal chest pockets, two external (fleece lined) hand pockets
- Fleece lined neck

This is a Cactus weekender shirt - designed for relaxing afternoons around the barbie. It also works nicely as summer office-wear, and for any other smart-casual situations you might find yourself in.
Matches very well with a nice tidy pair of, BBQ Shorts, Denim Supertrousers or SOS Shorts.
Note that we've made these shirts long in the body because they will shrink a little, especially if you hit them with a warm to hot wash.

Just when you thought that we had thought of everything, we've taken things a step further and introduced yet another member to the Supertrouser family. A denim version. But in true Cactus form, this isn't any ordinary denim. Made from a tough, Cordura denim, these pants have potential to become the greatest looking pair of denim trousers you ever put on. Like the Canvas Supertrousers, after about 6 months of hard wear and tear, they will have taken on that feeling of a second skin and look like they were made especially for you.
Because Cactus customers demand more than a pair of jeans to drink a latte in, we needed to find a fabric that could withstand a bit of a thrashing. This is why we went for the Cordura Denim which is 4x more abrasion resistant than normal cotton denim. The inclusion of high-tenacity nylon fiber helps resist tears, rips and punctures.
These are a different fit to the Canvas Supertrouser pattern and are the result of some serious trials and wear testing to make sure we nailed it. The fit is slim (but not skinny) and has a lower rise and fit more like a jean than a canvas Supertrouser.
So if you're one of those guys who finds buying denim (jeans) a nightmare, look no further - these will tick all of the boxes and fit like nothing else. You can count on Cactus to get it right.
- Cordura 12oz Denim is super durable, comfortable and wears in like nothing else
- 4x more abrasion resistant than normal cotton denim
- Still super practical for people who move their legs with the articulated knee design
- Slim (but not skinny) fit which can handle almost any social situation
- Clothing related embarrassing situations are minimised by YKK zips (because they’re the best) and bar-tacks at all stress points
- Cactus-Tough Lifetime Warranty
- Made in New Zealand
Please Note: Do not shorten (hem) prior to first wash as shrinkage may occur. These are a different fit to the Canvas Supertrousers*
These come hemmed to a standard length – see the 'Sizing' tab above.
For a longer leg length, you need Denim Supertrousers Extra Long.
If you need them hemmed shorter, we can do this for you. Just send them back to us – after you've washed them – with a note specifying the length you'd like them hemmed to. To work this out, measure your leg inseam – this is from your crotch to the floor, in bare feet. There is a charge for hemming.
Or you can hem them yourself. You do not require a heavy duty sewing machine for our denim, unlike our canvas.
• 12oz Cordura denim - 13% Cordura, 87% mixed cotton (4x more abrasion resistant to normal cotton)
- Machine wash in cold water only. Rinse thoroughly, line dry.
- Do not dry clean or bleach.
- Pant length will reduce by approx. 4cm during initial wash.
- Please note: When new, be careful not to ruin your mates brand new white leather seats in his/her Mercedes - the indigo dye does tend to bleed a little (this is common on all quality denim products).

Inseam
Measure pants that fit you well. Lay them flat and measure from the crotch to the bottom of the leg hem. If you don't have suitable pants, measure from your crotch to your desired pant leg length.
- Custom leg lengths are available from -10cm shorter to +10cm longer.
- The leg lengths of the standard Denim Supertrousers fit 95% of people just fine, but for those of you who need them longer or shorter we can customise.
- If you would like your Denim Supertrousers hemmed to be shorter then you need to add Hem Shorter to this order where you can specify the length. If you want them longer you need to go to Denim Supertrousers Extra Long, where you can select a leg length from the drop-down menu.
-
Please note that custom length shorts and trousers cannot be returned so please choose and measure carefully - call or email us if you are not sure.

A Cactus skirt? Don't worry, we're not having an identity crisis... Cactus are still totally focused on making fully functional and incredibly tough outdoor gear - this time in the form of the Superskirt.
This beautifully crafted A-line activewear skirt is built to serve a certain kind of woman - the Cactus woman. Active in the outdoors and always on the move, a Cactus lass needs something functional yet tidy so she can go straight from the garden to the pub, or from working on her feet to refueling at a cafe.
Made from our lighter and less stiff CNC fabric - this outdoor work skirt is incredibly durable, but soft and easier to wear. It has front and back pockets (and not those ridiculous fake ones like some skirts), sturdy buttons and a YKK zip.
Every superwoman should ditch the cape and get a Superskirt - it's much more practical.
Available in any colour as long as it's black.
- Practical and flattering knee-length
- A-line shape with a back split for movement
- Nice wide band for comfort
- Semi-relaxed fit, should sit approx. 3-5cm below the belly button
