Built from ultra-tough 3 layer WTF-3 fabric, this heavy-duty jacket will protect you from rain, wind, snow, and whatever else nature throws at you - and is guaranteed to last the distance in tough New Zealand conditions.
Similar in concept and design to our proven Mountain Jacket, the Rain Jacket is a longer cut so it keeps your shorts dry and protects your butt when you sit down for a brew in the rain.

Tired of waterproof breathable jackets that wear out? The Cactus Mountain Jacket is for you. Built in ultra tough 3 layer WTF-3 fabric, with real exterior pockets and no bogus lighter-weight pocket linings that leak, this heavy duty jacket will protect you from the elements with way more durability than your average cut-price waterproof/breathable garment.
Here's what our testers thought of it:
"I thought the fit of the jacket was spot on. The storm flap definitely did the job of keeping snow out of the pocket - even when I forgot to zip it up I didn't loose any goodies from the pocket. I really like having no hip pockets, as there is nothing to hinder and bunch up when bending at the hip. The pockets were sufficient for carrying all the stuff I needed for ski patrolling. Another feature I thought was pretty tiptop is the foldaway collar, it works nicely when snow is blowing everywhere."
"I was surprised at how well this thing breathes given how burly the fabric is. I never got hot skiing in it, and it’s obviously gonna last forever. Had a couple of stormy days in it on the mountain, it was totally wind and snow proof and the fabric didn’t soak, so it stayed supple yet bombproof in nasty weather."

In keeping with the theme of ‘staple’ gear for Kiwis, we bring you the Cactus Checked Flannel Shirt. Now complete and glowing with awesomeness we’re all wondering why we took so long to make these.
No matter what the time of year, when the sun sets in NZ, a flannel shirt is the perfect top to throw on and keep cosy by the fireside or on an evening stroll. The flannel shirt has to be one of the most versatile items of clothing.
Now you can probably pick up a flannel shirt from your local red shed for the price of half a dozen (non-craft) beers but it will never outlive, look as good or feel as amazing as the Cactus version. So what makes the Cactus Flannel Shirt stand out from the rest?
- It’s made from quality, 100% Cotton, 233gsm soft and warm brushed flannel
- NASA grade thread (that's strong!) and military grade buttons
- Voluminous, generous length chest pockets
- Felled side seams for strength
- Long back to save you from the infamous butt crack issue
- Roomy enough to nicely fit a Cactus Merino underneath for extra warmth on those cold days
- Reasonably high collar - high enough to keep the sun off but not so high as to look like a dork
- Double layered shoulders for extra strength and durability
- NZ made - right here in Christchurch
Please note: shrinkage may occur in first wash.

Down jackets or puffer jackets are a 'must have' for New Zealand winters. Good down jackets are never cheap so when you buy one you want it to last. This is why we thought that we should take on the challenge to make a tougher down jacket for those working and playing hard in the outdoors. And we did - super tough winter jackets that stand up to gorse, firewood stacking, brushing past old farm gear and the likes.
But why stop there ... you can't get much more heavy-duty than our canvas Supertrousers – so how about a down jacket to match?
And here it is – the next-level tough, Cactus Canvas Down Jacket. This is not a lightweight, 'pop in your backpack for a day walk' number. This is your hefty, super-warm, super-tough, big, burly, mega down jacket for outdoor professionals who need a durable, warm and reliable down jacket.
In true NZ made style, we're always looking for ways to make our gear even better and our latest edition does just that. Strengthened in all the places we do repairs and taking onboard customer feedback, the latest evolution of the Cactus Canvas Down Jacket features a grunty two way zipper, extra strengthening around pockets, a removable hood, improved water repelling and so much more.
- Premium C-Canvas water-repellent outer
- Adjustable and removable zip-off hood
- Extra strong main zipper with two way slider
- 750-loft white goose down. Ethically and responsibly sourced

- Premium C-Canvas outer, nylon taffeta lining with extra internal reinforcing on the lower back to avoid wear and tear around your 'seat'
- Two internal chest pockets, one external chest pocket
- Two external (fleece lined) hand pockets

A tailored women’s cut of the Men's Supertrousers.
The Women's Supertrousers are the result of giving traditional Cactus functionality the feminine touch of an experienced women’s apparel designer. We present to you our solution to the demands of those women who need real workwear but want to look good in it. These are the perfect all-rounders, whether you are trapping stoats for DOC, working the land or travelling the globe.
Like all Cactus products, these are made to the highest quality standards right here in New Zealand. We use our proven European C-Canvas and YKK zips and incorporate carefully considered design features such as articulated knees and strategic bar tacking for strength and wear-ability. Because of this we can confidently offer a lifetime warranty on materials and workmanship.
When you first put these on you might be surprised by the stiffness of the fabric. Have faith – after a bit of use they will “relax” and mold to the shape of your body, ending up being possibly your most comfortable item of clothing - and they’ll stay that way; truly pants that wear in, not out.
- C-Canvas is great to wear and will last for ages
- Women's cut
- Made in New Zealand with first world environmental and labour values
- Articulated knee for tricky manoeuvres, be they building houses or a quick spot of bouldering
- Casual styling which won't let you down in most social situations
- Bar-tacked at all stress points
- YKK zips because they're the best
- Phone pocket for easy access to your digital companion
- Two back pockets
- Fabric : Proofed European 12oz C-Canvas
- Weight : 700 grams
- Essentially, Canvas Supertrousers and Supershorts require a bit of a wear-in period to soften the fabric.
- The first three or so washes should be done by hand, then you should be right to machine wash.
- Use cold water with a mild powder detergent, rinse thoroughly, very gentle or no spin and line-dry.
-
Do not iron, dry clean, spin-dry or use bleach.
- When new, the stiffness of the fabric means it creases in points rather than soft folds - washing them in an aggressive or hot machine can cause damage on the crease points.
-
Our canvas also has a waterproofing agent which, if washed in an aggressive or hot machine, can shift and discolour. This will appear as white lines which cannot be removed.
-
Washing inside out will minimise lighter coloured creases on the outside of the fabric, but won’t remove stains quite as well.
- Drip dry without creases (it won't take long as the polyester in the fabric doesn't hold much water)
- Close zips while washing (they'll last longer)
- Note that all the colours will lighten with use and washing as the natural cotton content of the fabric won't take a dye fixative in the same way as a 100% synthetic fabric.
- If you get attacked by a pig and the fabric gets holed while saving your reproductive potential send them back and we'll patch ‘em for a small fee
- If you are still not sure, give us a call or flick us an email
