The Cactus Hector Features in Heart of the Beast
Turns out one of our packs has landed itself a role in Hollywood.
The Cactus Hector appears in Heart of the Beast, David Ayer’s new survival thriller starring Brad Pitt and filmed right here in Aotearoa New Zealand.
No sponsorship deal.
No product placement.
No Hollywood handshake.
The production bought the pack through our B2B team like any other customer.
SPOT THE CACTUS
Heart of the Beast follows former Special Forces soldier James Belmont and his combat dog, Odin, after a plane crash leaves them fighting their way through the Alaskan wilderness.
Alaska on screen. The South Island behind it.
And somewhere amongst all that wilderness is a Cactus Hector, complete with the little yellow logo.
Which feels about right.
We’ve spent more than 30 years making gear for people who head into rough country and expect their kit to get them home again.
Apparently that translates pretty well to the big screen.
The Hector
There are lighter packs.
There are packs with more pockets, zips, straps, doodads and things to lose.
The Hector isn’t one of them.
It’s our dedicated multi-day tramping pack: big, simple and built properly. A single main compartment, tough canvas construction and a modular harness designed from decades spent carrying loads around the New Zealand backcountry.
60–70L capacity
Ultra Canvas construction
Removable lid
Modular harness system
Made in New Zealand
Strength. Comfort. Simplicity.
Less feature-bloat. Less Murphy’s Law.
Made Here. Used Out There.
The Hector didn’t have to travel far to get to set.
We make Hectors here in Christchurch, New Zealand.
We’ve been doing things that way since the early ’90s: designing gear, cutting fabric, sewing it together and fixing it when somebody eventually manages to do something sufficiently stupid to hurt it.
Farmers. Tradies. Trampers. Researchers. Pest controllers. Guides. People working in Antarctica.
And, every now and again, a Hollywood film crew.
We’ll take that.
Cactus Outdoor has no endorsement or promotional relationship with Brad Pitt in connection with Heart of the Beast. The Cactus Hector appears in the film after being purchased by the production.
